THE WONDER CRACKER SEWING PATTERN

Stitch your own Wonder Cracker, an innovative, reusable fabric cracker designed to be pulled apart with a snap. It is an environmentally friendly and cost effective alternative to the traditional paper cracker.

This 18 page A4 booklet provides detailed instructions and diagrams outlining how to stitch the cracker from fabric, stiffen it with buckram to provide structure and how to add that all-important snap. The cracker can be reused again and again, with the option of adding a new snap each time. The pattern also includes recommended fabric choices and useful advice for creating multiple crackers.

All required pattern pieces are rectangles, full dimensions of which are provided. Therefore please note that this sewing pattern does not include any physical pattern pieces.

MATERIALS REQUIRED PER CRACKER:
54 x 19cm main fabric - eg. quilting weight cotton; avoid heavy weight, sheer or stretch fabrics and anything that can’t be ironed.
56 x 19cm lining fabric - eg. cotton lining; avoid heavy weight, sheer or stretch fabrics and anything that can’t be ironed.
38 x 17cm heavy weight single sided fusible buckram
100 cm ribbon - suggested width 10 - 20mm
Cracker snap
Matching thread

FINISHED CRACKER DIMENSIONS: 6.5 x 6.5 x 32cm approx.

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner/Intermediate: Each cracker involves stitching a few short straight seams using a sewing machine. A small amount of hand sewing using a simple running stitch is also required to complete each cracker. Familiarity with following a sewing pattern is helpful but not essential.

Please note that this pattern is sold for personal use only. The pattern must not be copied, altered, reproduced or sold on without prior permission from Lucy Dorothy Nichols. Similarly crackers made using this sewing pattern should not be sold on without prior permission. By purchasing this pattern you are agreeing to these terms.

How fabrics are cut

✂️More than one quantity will be cut as a continuous length. If you select 3 units, it will be issued as a half metre and a fat quarter. As a guide, half a metre of fabric is equal to 2 fat quarters and one metre of fabric 4 fat quarters. Please send me a message if you would like a longer length and I can check to see if it is available. It is 43" wide and is 100% cotton.

😊I try to represent the design and colour of my items as accurately as possible but please be aware that this may vary on different screens or devices. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to help.

🌿Why don't you reduce your postage costs and take the option of re-used packaging. Living in a village with limited shops nearby and limited time to visit shops, I do quite a bit of internet shopping. Not only is it a timesaver with three children but I cut down my own mileage. This does mean I get quite a lot of packaging through my door which I then normally recycle. However, I thought some of my lovely customers wouldn't mind paying a little less postage for a reused envelope or box:

Support my Mighty Hike - 26 miles - from Alnwick to Bamburgh

🤩I’ve signed up to a challenge which is going to feed my soul! I’ve had quite a couple of years on the personal front. I’ve been wanting to do a long walk for a while as I transition through the end of the house renovation to normal life beyond and move into the future and all the possibilities that lie ahead. I signed up as soon as I saw this opportunity for the Mighty Hike in Northumberland on 5th September. And I’m doing it just as me which is going to be amazing!

😍Too many of my family members have had cancer so this is an issue close to my heart. We have holidayed many times along this coastline so it will be a very special to combine walking in this beautiful spot with fundraising for cancer.

🚶‍♀️I haven’t walked 26 miles before so this is a big challenge for me. I wasn’t the sporty child at school, in fact I really didn’t like sport. I was the person almost off the edge of the hockey pitch looking very purple and not wanting to hit the ball. Music was more my thing. However, I do love walking and I loved the long walks I did as a Brownie or a Guide. I lived in Lake Louise in the Rocky Mountains in Canada for a summer and I used to climb to the top of the mountain before work each day. I love the open space, the quiet, the wind buffeting in your ears, the sound of the sea, the bird song - no need for a headphones, just listening to nature around you. I’m walking an hour every morning with longer ones planned. I’m so lucky to live by the sea and have my mile markers defined by points on the coast line. It's the loveliest way to carve out some time for yourself in the day.

✨I’m doing this one on my own as you always have more of an adventure when you’re on your own. You meet new people, get out of your comfort zone more and just have more fun.

🥾If anyone would like to donate, the link is below. I haven't started the fundraising yet, I'm still deep in the loft conversion and all the decisions that come with major building works. But soon, my focus will turn to fundraising! No doubt more will come as I settle into it.
