Tilda Fabrics have re-released some of their patterns for solid fabrics along with the New Basics collection of Poppy Seed and Brie released on 1st March 2026. I thought you might like their free patterns as inspiration.
Tilda describes the collection as "PoppySeed is a versatile collection of dusty pastels with tiny dots, perfect for everything from small appliqué to backgrounds. It is used for most of the backgrounds with the Something Blue collection to give a muted contrast to the vibrant blues.
Brie is a design you will already know from Creating Memories. We just love the effect this small floral has in patchwork and appliqué, and decided to add 12 additional colors for a new basic collection.
Brie is both calming and interesting. It is perfect when working on small projects or as a contrast in a patchwork, and is ideal for binding. Brie appears in appliqué and details with the Something Blue collection.
These basics should appeal to everyone who loves small hand sewing and piecing projects. They are great overall basics for backgrounds and binding"

This quilt is not only easy to make but is a great way to showcase a selection of lovely fabrics from our Solids range. The striking modern design is composed of four asymmetrical blocks, made in different colourways and contrasted with a warm sand background. If you like, itwould be easy to change the background to another Tilda Solid of your choice. This lovely quilt is quite unusual and is reminiscent of floral needlepoint embroideries, recreated here using a subtle mixture of solid fabrics on a dark peacock background. The design is made up of just squares in a single size, so there’s lots of easy cutting and sewing, although for the best result you do have to match up seams neatly when sewing the patches together. For the background, individual squares are used throughout rather than strips, to continue the appearance of an embroidery. We’ve also made a pieced backing for the quilt and instructions are given for making this if you choose this option.

4. Flower Bouquet Embroidery Quilt
Our embroidery-themed quilts proved to be so popular that we have designed another one to add to your collection. This one also uses needlepoint as the inspiration and is a mixture of Solid and Chambray fabrics, beautifully contrasted with a lovely grey Chambray background.
The design is made up of just squares in a single size, so there’s lots of easy cutting and the piecing is straightforward too. 6. Me and My Friend Applique Clothes
Me and My Friend fabrics depicting female busts is perfect for creative projects. Applique clothes and hats on the busts to use them for fun personalized projects like pillows, bags, pincushions, sewn placement cards, charming ornaments or even quilts.
Find ideas and templates for applique clothes in two sizes to fit the larger or smaller busts below. You can use whatever applique method you are comfortable with, but it’s really easy and fun to use Applique paper. Instruction for use will be on the applique paper package.
Colourful is certainly an apt description of this wonderful quilt, where clever piecing creates the illusion of a vibrant town filled with multi-coloured houses. It looks complicated but is more straight forward than you might think, being made up of different units pieced together into columns. The quilt is a chance for the many wonderful colours in Tilda’s Solids collection to shine.

This version of the quilt is identical to the warm version but uses different colours and cool shades for the background. Follow the Materials list given below and make the quilt in the same way.

9. Spinning Top Quilt (Warm Colourway)
This bold quilt is really easy and quick to sew. It is made up of strips of bright solid colours against two paler background colours in warm shades. An asymmetrical look is produced by rotating one half of the design 180 degrees, to create the illusion of the much-loved spinning top children’s toy. A pieced backing for the quilt continues the clean, contemporary look and instructions are given for making this if you choose this option. The quilt design is also available in a cooler colour palette – see the end of these instructions for that alternative.
